It began as the Algerian Arabic for "what", grew up in the suburbs of Paris and travelled with rap and street culture far beyond them. Today it means hello. It means what's up. Said with the right look, it means "seriously?". We wrote it in a looping retro script with a swoosh underneath, because a word this sociable deserves a little swagger.

Wear it to the bar and someone will say it back. That's the whole point.
